Little Funny Things

Normally I'm very serious but sure we all have a silly side. Here's mine.

I'm amused by people wearing poorboy caps, ha ha, they remind me of frogs. What's that guy's name from "Wind in the Willows", yes Mr Toad. :) Weird I know.

I hate the marble eyes of teddy bears, it seems that they always look straight at me, and I always feel they look kinda sad, I think it has to do with the stitching on their mouths. But oh, their so adorable!

All cats appear very snobbish to me, I just get that aristocratic vibes from them. Unless their ally cats, then I get gangster vibes from them. :)

I've been put of by jelly, read that the gelatin are extracted from animal tonsils, so now whenever I have to eat this wobbly dessert I try not to think about it.

Not fond of high low mini dresses. Really cool fashion trend but as the longer lenght dress, not the mini, simply because it makes me look like cockroach with that rounded end. Yuck.

And lastly the whole horse meat debacle have changed the way I look at processed meat forever. They've already found traces of donkey meat in deli's around South Africa, without stating so on the packaging. Think I must turn vegetarian...

Saturday Adventures

My Saturday started with a cup of delicious coffee and a bowl of All Bran Flakes. I found these dotty crockery around last year, at Pep Home for just R14.00, yes for both. Their beautiful!

Later I decided to organise my bathroom cabinet, because at the end of the week some products are honestly laying around all over the place, even on my kitchen table... You'll find a lip gloss next to the kitchen sink, body cream in my study, vitamins on my coffee table. That's me. ;)

Then I prepared lunch... Well it's actually leftovers from last night. Barbecue chicken, roast potato and tropical stir fry, there's pineapple bits in there.

I plan to spend the rest of the day reading a new book, Agaat by Marlene Van Niekerk, send to me by Fair Lady Magazine. I really love her well written , sensitive, brutally honest writing style. Her first novel Triumph, really blew my mind away, not for the faint hearted, and this one promise to be even better, reviews call it another triumph. ;)

Happy Saturday.

When I Was 21

When I was 21...

My hair was pitch black for about 3 solid years.
I lived in Sea Point, South Africa. Miss that place...
I wanted to see the world... still do.
I believed in miracles... still do.
I was a dreamer... ;) yes, I'm still a big dreamer.

Thing is nothing much has changed since then, I mean 8 years later and I'm still the same, just a bit more realistic and more responsible. But I still long for lots of adventurous things, I guess as we grew older its normal to reminisce about the times when we were young and vigorous. However recently I've been doing that a lot... You can read more here, about when I was younger.

Rita Haywood

Well lets just say that after watching the movie Shawshank Redemption, a million times, I've been entranced with the lovely Rita... The narrative voice of Morgan Freeman just takes me away to the whole scenery, whenever I hear her name or see a picture of her. Who will ever forget the hole in the wall where through Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) escaped to freedom... Sheer determination. Love that movie!

Everyday Gestures of Love

I believe everyday should be Valentine's Day and I truly believe it's possible if your committed to work at it. Yes I know with ones job and other things on the priority list it can be a bit of a challenge to achieve, but little things like "please and thank you" or just allowing and overlooking certain things can make a huge difference. ;) Respect and creativity also plays a big part in making someones day, overall it's in the simple things...

Here's 4 awesome gestures of love.

1- Buy one of that flirty "I love you" mugs and make him a delicious cup of coffee, make it extra special by warming the milk or ad some cream for decadent yummyness. Note - Get up before him.
2 - Write a cute love note around his breakfast plate.
3 - Give him a cute clear glass bottle with multiple love notes too read. Tie with a sweet ribbon.
4 - Compile a CD with romantic love songs and design the CD cover yourself. I adore Babyface, Luther Vandrosss, Bryan Adams, oh and Barry White. Yes I know, soo cheesy but what the heck! :)

Love Never Fails

1 Corinthians 13: 4–8

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails... (NIV)

Love Letters

Ink on paper looks good, to me anyway and sometimes I can't express myself fully, that is until I write it down. Today's post is all about the letters I've written in the past, some very cringe worthy, some out of love and some just because I had to.

The first letter I ever wrote was to my late grandfather, I was about 6 when I wrote it, in a very clumsy handwriting. It was very difficult for me to come to terms with his sudden tragic death. It was mostly sad scribbles of the love I had for him and about the pain I felt at the time. Just thinking about it makes me teary, so enough said.

The letter to my mom. This is the one letter that I will never regret. In there I asked her forgiveness for all my teenage mistakes, the hormonal tantrums, emotional blackmail and false accusations. Let's just say I was a very emotional teen and I had my reasons. Don't we all?

The letter to my first real boyfriend, I was about 17 and things just didn't work out, so I was trying to explain the situation, more to myself then him. I think I had a pretty envelope laying around, so that's what prompted me to write something. Believe me when I say that I really can't recall a thing on that paper, not saying that it was just a piece of paper, well you know what I mean.

The letter to my second boyfriend. It was beautiful and meant from the heart. It was all about our love for each other and the normal ups and downs. I was about 19, I think... Still have fond memories about the time but I'm glad it ended.

The letter to my Basil. It was his birthday on the 6 th of February and I decided to write him, telling him how special he is to me and how much I appreciate his compassion and love towards me and how I just wanted us to grow together as a couple... Planning to write him another love note on Valentine's Day... ;) Shhhh.

Do you like receiving letters?

Island Dreams

I'm definitely one of those girls that have regular island dreams. Especially when I'm tired and in desperate need of inspiration. This day dream is always the same and goes like this.
  • Any lovely island with scenery to die for, you know those with brilliant blue waters and uplifting sunny skies.
  • Lovely palm trees with juicy tropical fruit.
  • The aroma of those fruit along with the breeze of the sea.
  • Distant island music, not to loud, just to ad to the whole theme. ;)
  • That amazing carefree, laid back vibe.
  • A big cocktail in hand, any exotic flavour. ;)
  • Me in a hammock.
  • Taking sips of my cocktail every now and then, just to make sure I'm really there.
  • Me just laying in the hammock, drifting into relaxation. Bliss...
Do you have similar island dreams, tell me about them.

When I Was Younger

When I was about 18 I left for the city trying to pursue a modelling career. (That didn't worked out well.) I lived in Sea-Point at the time and yes, that was the best time of my life...

I downed loads of ice-cold beers with my silly, equally irresponsible friends.

I only ate take-aways for that time, burgers, chips, chicken, pizza and booze were my staples. Well at that time my metabolism were still in tip-top condition. Well I also ate lots of fruit and I did take multivitamins.

I had a passionate love affair with a bad boy, but like with all bad boys it didn't end well. He was a serial cheater, that's all.

I did manage to get a modelling job as an extra, alongside beauty queens Jo-Ann Strauss and Tammy-Ann Fortuin, on a yacht at the V & A Waterfront. Let's just say the atmosphere were stiff and tense among the rest of the models, checking out each others features and who knows what. Not good for the self esteem, at all.

I had lovely long walks alongside the promenade. Didn't appreciate it enough at the time.

I had even lovelier walks in the whimsical Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, its oh-so-pretty there. Nature does have such a calming effect on the mind, I would say its one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I found this amazing jewellery shop in the Golden Acre Mall called " Little Ruby", they sell the loveliest silver rings, earrings and other goodies over there. I bough this cute little ring for just R20.00 at the time, and I'm still wearing  it. :)

I met this great old Italian guy called Luigi, he owned a pizza place in Sea Point called "Bella Italia", well he was such a great story teller. Many nights I use to sit outside his restaurant, listening to his childhood days.

I really had fun at the time...
