Tropical Body Luxuries

Through blogging I've been introduced to soo many wonderful beauty products. It's always wonderful to try out something pretty + new, but lets be honest, we all have our few, sometimes less expensive favourites. Like the smell of white Lux Beauty Soap, that will always remind me of my late grandma. Occasionally I would buy it, have a bath and think of all the child-hood hugs + love I got from her. She was such a lady...

Now take a look at these lovely products that I'm currently using. I'm packing them all into my holiday toiletry bag - going camping soon, yay. Aand you know what that means, lots of yummy cocktails, my weakness! ;)
Radox Body Wash - Sensual Spa. This glittery body-wash reminds me of that cute Sweetie Pie jelly at Lush. Sourced from the tropical rain forests in Madagascar, the soothing ylang ylang has been beautifully blended with fragrant lotus flower to rejuvenate body + mind. I feel so relaxed after using this, it's truly a "Sensual Spa" experience. Plus it's pink, girly and pretty! Every bottle of Radox contains a combination of essential oils and a secret blend of 13 herbs and minerals. This was R26 at Clicks.
Exclamation Dance - Coty. I once had the perfume when I was a student, so when I saw this deodorant body spray on the shelves at my local Spar, it brought back fond memories. I love the fruity punch of peach and apricot scent which reminds me of cocktails on a sunny island. The woody and powdery effects of sandalwood also leaves a smooth, beautiful trail on my skin. It's such a cheerful scent! I paid R23 for this lady at Spar.
Bela Body Butter - Chocolate Fragrance. This thick + heavenly body-butter smells divine... Sniffling it from the pot may at first be too intense. You may think, awe yuk, well that is until you feel the amazing rich texture on your skin and smell it afterwards. It becomes a dreamy exotic, hints of vanilla and coco-buttery scent that lingers on your skin throughout the day. I got two 250 ml pots for R15 each at Game. Very similar to the Body Shop's Chocomania body-butter, not as decadent, although I've been struggling to make up my mind...

Illustrator: Inslee Haynes

Today I'm showing of oh-so-pretty illustrations from Inslee Haynes a talented + super successful illustrator from New York City. Oh my gosh, what a life! She's so blessed and her blog takes my breath away.
Before we view beautiful images, did you know I'm about to venture into a new business? Yep, finally and at last I decided to turn my side hustle into this blog: Social Media Blooms - you will see that I'm still working on a few things, I just thought you should know and also I would obviously appreciate your support. ;) Any tips + advice... feel free to share. Also looking at doing a few guest post in the near future. But more about that later. Let's see the artist at work! :)
Inslee Haynes
"One of my very first memories is of being deeply frustrated that I had to use a brown magic marker to draw the mermaid I was working on… as opposed to the ideal purple marker I did not have. I also remember that I was wearing a diaper when this happened. So you could say I've been an artist for as long as I can remember.
I spent my childhood sketching constantly. In high school I studied fashion illustration during the summer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and in college I majored in Studio Art and Art History.
I founded Inslee By Design during my sophomore year at Washington & Lee University as an outlet for my love of illustration. I turned my sketches into a note card design business and ask my sorority sisters to help spread the news. That same winter I introduced my first yearly calendar… and the rest is history!
I now live in New York City where I paint, blog and sample the city’s vast selection of croissants one patisserie at a time."  -  Inslee Haynes

The Karlie Kloss Haircut

Today I'm sharing some selfies of my new 'Karlie' ( as in supermodel Karlie Kloss ) cut. I've always envied girls with long, flowing hair  - like the pretty Laura Jane in this video...  But unfortunately I have very curly + flat hair and, when I try to grow them they always turn out straw like after a few months. The longer it gets the more brittle it becomes. Aand that's why I love this lovely haircut so much, as I will be forced to cut it all the time to keep this cute-as-a-button shape. It definitely change the way I look + feel, while the preppy fringe hide the fine lines on my almost 30 year old forehead. Also, for the first time I'm embracing my mousy haircolour... Yay! :)

10 Fave Things: Lipgloss Kisses

When I started out blogging Chicara was my mentor, I truly like her unique girly style of blogging, and the fact that she never fails to entertain me on her oh-so-beautiful blog called: Lipgloss Kisses - Have you seen her blog? I mean really, it's like a yummy candy-shop, I guess the fact that she's a talented web-developer helps a lot. :)

She was recently chosen as POND'S South Africa's Blog of the month - where bloggers pin their fave images on the PONDS Pinners board. Go have a look at her pretty + lovely pins!

And today she's sharing her 10 Fave Things on my blog. Yep, isn't that just awesome! Thank you Chicara for taking the time to write this post. To my readers, enjoy...

I obviously love my family and we are pretty close. I also love my boyfriend and my little fur-child – Chi Chi.  But aside from that these are the 10 slightly more superficial things that I LOVE. I have a list of 100, but you only asked for 10, so here goes...

1. New York - I'm obsessed with this city. I know it's a cliché, but I just love the fast-paced lifestyle, the shopping and the interesting sidewalk food stands & restaurants that New York offers.

2. Makeup - Of course I love makeup and all things beauty. I'm crazy about beautiful packaging and trying out different products. I have so many wish list items that I wish I could buy. A girl can dream...

3. Everything and anything from LUSH. The Lush shop is my favourite shop (besides TYPO). It was basically my first stop when I visited Cape Town in December. I've loved everything I've tried from LUSH and can't wait till their website is up and running.

4. Ice-Cream - I could sit and eat Häagen-Dazs all day long. I just find great comfort in huge bowls of ice-cream/gelato. I really wish we had Ben & Jerry's and Baskin-Robbins in S.A.

5. Yankee & Village Candles - I’m a huge fan of Yankee candles, but recently discovered Village Candles thanks to Luzanne from Pink Peonies. They smell amazing! I love the black cherry scent the most. Yum!

6. Shopping - I can spend hours in a mall shopping. I can even window shop and still be happy. It’s definitely my ‘happy place’.

7. Watching TV Series - If I’m not shopping, blogging, reading or playing TV games then I’m definitely watching TV series. I watch TV as escapism so I normally watch shows that aren't too hard-hitting or intense.

8. Coffee - Oh how I love a good cup of coffee. My addiction has been fed even further by the fact that we now have a Nespresso machine. Bliss.

9. Sushi  - I have so many fave foods but I think Sushi is something I never get sick of. I’m always craving it and it always makes my tummy very happy.

10. Cupcakes - I enjoy making cupcakes. I enjoy eating them but most of all I just love looking at them. I’m crazy about anything with a cupcake-print or design on it as well. I even have a giant ceramic cupcake in my office.

Great list lady, I adore cupcakes + gelato too! I also can't wait for that LUSH website to be up and running. Need to start saving for that shopping spree. ;)

New Adventures

I've recently moved into this awesome industrial chic apartment and therefore I've been really busy, you know unpacking stuff and trying to create a beautiful home. I also finished my 3 month internship at this great web development company in Cape Town, got engaged and moved back with my boyfriend... You saw this coming, didn't you! :) Well, needless to say I'm very happy and I'm looking forward to brand new adventures. However during my break-up I've realized - Some very powerful things:
  1. I'm one hell of a strong woman, once I make a goal that I feel strongly about, there's absolutely nothing that will and can stop me.
  2. I do not need a man, I'm independent and can really make it on my own.
  3. There's some real ignorant people in this world but...
  4. True confidence comes from knowing your self worth.
Now, enough with the wise words, here's what I've been up to lately... :)
I came across this beautiful shade of lavender polish called Purple Pastel from Yardly. Six lucky seventeeners ( for Seventeen Magazine ) had the chance to inspire the creation of this Yardly Quick Dry nail polish. My favorites from the winning shades are: Tiff Milkshake, Pink Macaroon, Candy Queen and this stunning shade I got here! This polish dries in 60 seconds and stays chip free for nearly 5 days. Available from Clicks for R49.95.
I took this picture in Dingleton, Northern Cape. I just love nature and the calmness it brings to my mind... Would love to capture more images like these. :)
This is a gift box I'm creating for my almost 9 year old niece, and I actually need your help with this. What do you think I should include? I already got Jade these fruity peel off nail varnishes, a little notebook, lipgloss and a pink bottle of hand-wash.

Notebook & Box - Mr Price Home
Princess Thandie Handwash - Clicks
Nail Varnishes and Lipgloss - Ackermans
My latest not-finished-yet project. I'm in the very early stages of creating my own work from home office. I would love some insight from you on this project too. What would you recommend? What should I include to make my office awesome? Waiting on your comments... ;)

Beach Bars & Blue Skies

About a year ago I started to have these horrible feelings of stagnation and discontent. I use to reminisce about when I was 21 and younger! And I compiled this list of things I wanted to do before I turned 29. But I only bought the boots. Eek!

However I realized that in a strange way - through a tragic breakup ( that forced me to change the name of my blog from Adventures of Victoriabasil to Adventures of Victoriafolksy... Mmm, hectic! ) I was able to revisit all the beautiful places from my past while gaining some more beautiful memories too. I'm so thankful...

So then here's a few of my new favorite hot-spots...
 1. The Shimmy Beach Club - Indulging in delicious cocktails while watching this brilliant blue ocean... I totally adore the stunning decor and views at this awesome venue. Do yourself a favour and visit this beach-front gemstone this summer! They are one of the top 10 beach bar's in the world. Um, and I was there! ;)
 2. Den Anker - One of the Waterfront's most popular pioneers! I spoiled myself with a beer tasting and totally fell in-love with their Liefmans Fruitess: a unique, fresh beer blend-maturing for 18 months on cherries, this is then artfully blended with the natural juices of cherry, bilberry, elderberry, strawberry and raspberry. Download their beer list here.

 3. Tjing Tjing - This is a rooftop bar situated in 165 Longmarket Street, Cape Town. They boast with a great selection of cocktails like the Bugs Bunny, Cotton Candy, Ginger Ninja, Cherry Blossom and the Perfect Lady. And I would like to try them all sometime! ;)
 4. CubanaCubaña is South Africa’s only authentic Latino Social Caffé and eatery which provides the services of a cocktail bar and cigar lounge with a unique flavoursome cuisine. I'm besotted with their Cuban and Latino music and while there you might get a glimpse of a celebrity or two. Their dress code is smart casual and door policies keep the standards high. I sat outside absorbing the urban vibes of Green Point and once again indulged in my drink of choice - the fruity Pina Colada! ;)
5. The Old Biscuit Mill - This place is what I call a food & wine tasting... With so much to eat and drink this Saturday, Food Lover's Market have capture my heart forever! See another blog-post I did some time ago. I bough this alcoholic honey shooter in a shot-glass made from real dark chocolate for just R10!

10 Fave Things: Diva Desle

Yay! I'm having the dark haired beauty Desle from Diva Desle on the blog! Actress, singer, puppeteer and blogger. Yes, she's a multi - talented, down to earth lady with a bubbly personality and a very soft/big heart. And today she's sharing her 10 Fave Things.

These are my personal favorite Diva Desle blog-posts.

Now let's learn more about this extraordinary lady, here's her 10 Fave Things.

1. I adore all shades of pink. In fact I'm crazy about it. Call me obsessed. I have pink bags, clothes, pillows, clock, ghd, bucket, toothbrush etc. If I could own a pink Mercedes Benz my life would be complete.
2. I love road tripping. Thanks to my jobs (yes I have more than one) I get to travel in South Africa 5 months out of the year. My favourite places to visit are arty or small obscure towns that people wouldn't normally go to. There is so much history and beauty in those towns.
3. I love performing. I have been doing it since the age of 4. Both my grandparents were performers and used to sing and act on stage. I have inherited their performing genes! I am most happy when I'm singing and acting on stage.
4. Coffee and chocolates are my addictions. One day does not go by when I don't have both. I just love the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the mornings. Chocolate really gets me through the day and puts me in a good mood.
5. I enjoy spending time with my family. Special moments are cooking with my mom, laying on the couch watching movies with my sister or listening to old LP's rock music with my dad. I also enjoy laughing and being crazy with my friends.
6. I love Cape Town! The city means so much to me. I love the people, the scenery and the good vibes. I enjoy going out an exploring the city and meeting new people. Cape Town is where my heart will always be no matter where in the world I am.

7. When I am alone I am always reading a juicy novel. I love getting lost in books. I visit my local library all the time just browsing through all the novels.
8. I adore dogs and hate cats. My favourites are Alsatians and Terriers. They are the best companions ever!!
9. I have an earring and dress fetish. I collect dresses and earrings. I just love the beauty of a well fitted dress and beautiful designed earrings.
10. My favourite place to be on earth is the beach. I love the sea with all my heart. It's beautiful, calming and scary all at the same time. I could sit on the beach and just stare at the waves forever! I enjoy swimming in the sea and smelling the fresh sea breeze.

Thank you pretty lady - I adored this post. :) I also love juicy novels, chocolate and beautiful flowing summer dresses! xoxo

Bath-time Cocktails

I would like to share with you my fave bath-time products, although I'm sure that most of you ladies are familiar with these already. ;) I've been using these fabulous U.K. products for some time now and they truly transfer me to happy-land. I must confess that I use my shower gels as bubble baths too especially when they smell this good. And we all know that nothing beats an indulgent, luxury bath after a long day accompanied with a glass of ahum bubbly...  What's your fave can't-go-without bath-time products?

Dirty Works Body Butter in Coconut Caress
This is a sumptuous body butter, lightly fragrance with exotic Coconut. It's so decadent and melts into my skin leaving it silky and soft. This pot really last a long time and I just love the smell of Pina Colada! I will surely buy this amazing cream again, it's the perfect cocktail for my olive skin. This great product is available at Clicks.

Imperial Leather Shower Cream in Japanese Spa
I'm besotted with this Japanese Spa shower cream infused with a traditional Eastern blend of green tea, rice milk and jasmine to purify the skin leaving it beautifully soft. The jasmine have this blissful relaxing and soothing effect, transforming my daily cleansing into an exquisite ritual. This product is 100 % soap free and available at most grocery stores. I got this at Shoprite.

Lush Shower Gel  in Happy Hippy
I adore this shower gel, it's really like squeezing yourself a fresh grapefruit breakfast from a bottle. It's infused with bergamot oil and yummy fresh pink grapefruit juice. This product is from their Cosmetics To Go days and it was so missed that they had to bring it back. Well I love it and will definitely go back for more. You can use this zesty gel on your hair and body, perfect for waking you up in the morning! I always feel energised and carefree, like a Happy Hippy whenever I use it. ;) I got mine from Lush in the Waterfront, Cape Town.
